So, I agreed to participate in a blog tour for the amazing M.L. Tishner. Her new book The God Queen just came out, and she provided me with the inside details on the main ship in her book The Luciernaga. For all you fandom junkies out there, it’s the name of an actual boat, not a portmanteaux. Here’s what M.L. had to say about Luci:
The God Queen has officially been out for over a day! Thank you so much for all who have helped and participated in my campaign! But the fun is not over yet! I still have some more fun facts to deliver!
Today I wanted to tell you about my favorite ship, Luciernaga. I thought it would be fun to share some tidbits about her and where she came from.
First Manden (https://mltishner.com/2019/09/05/manden) has owned Luciernaga for several thousand years. Does it look like it did when he first got it? Definitely not. Machinery breaks down, pieces fall off, repairs are necessary, etc. Manden has never been one for details – especially when most of the original parts are no longer made, so he learned to improvise.
As a results, this ship is one of a kind. Unfortunately, to everyone outside of Manden, Luciernaga looks like a piece of shit.
The idea for Luci came when I watched Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle. I loved how the castle looked: tired, falling apart, but it was so sincerely loved. That’s what I felt about Manden’s ship.
But where did I get the name? The people of Manden’s kingdom are of latin descent and they have managed to maintain a dialect of Castellano or Castilian Spanish (although they prefer to call it Castelan). Luciernaga is, in fact, a Spanish name. It means firefly.
See what I did there?
Anyway, hopefully there will be more opportunities for the Volocio to travel more in Luci but for now, you’ll have to settle for some clips from this awesome movie!
